Featured Artist/Designer: Gillian Ross

Welcome to another Featured Artist/Designer Spotlight. Today we’re thrilled to welcome Gillian Ross. Before we show you Gillian’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…

GillianRossProfilePicture-10022014-250HHi, my name is Gillian and I am so honoured to be featured at Paper Crafter’s Library.  I live in Aberdeen, Scotland with my husband Jamie.  My day job is a Quantity Surveyor, not in the least bit creative, so card making in the spare time is my creative outlet.

I started crafting 3 years ago and have been totally bitten by the bug.  When I am not crafting I am fueling my obsession with Pinterest for all things crafty and spending far too much money on new stamp sets and ink.

I am very lucky to be on two super talented design teams, CASology and Uniko Studio.  You can find my blog showcasing my cards at http://madewithsparkle.blogspot.co.uk/

I am very much a ‘clean and simple’ girl, however I didn’t start out that way – my style has just evolved to this over the years.  I am actually very jealous of people that can make beautiful cards with lots of layers and embellishments.  Today I have a card which hopefully showcases my style perfectly.

Happy Birthday Card

GillianRoss-10022014-550W

For my card I started out with kraft cardstock.  I stamped the background flower stamp in white pigment ink and then over stamped in a bold dye ink.  I love the effect of this on the coloured cardstock.  You can do this on any coloured cardstock, not just kraft.  I then stamped my sentiment in pigment ink also.  Since I didn’t want to add leaves to my flowers, I used green sparkles to create this effect.  To finish, I mounted my cardstock using foam pads onto a white card base.

Supplies
Craftwork Cards – Kraft and White cardstock
Uniko Studio – Flower Power # 6
Stampin’ Up! – Express Yourself
Anita’s Gems – Green Sparkles

We hope you have enjoyed today’s project courtesy of Gillian Ross.  Be sure to stop by Gillian’s blog to see even more of her beautiful work (and let her know we sent you).

Have a great day!

Lawn Fawn Designer – Lynnette Kauffman

Today we welcome Lynnette Kauffman. We are so excited to have her showcase her work today on Paper Crafter’s Library. You can see Lynnette’s fabulous projects below, but first, here is a little more about her:

LynnetteKauffmanProfilePic-10012014-122WI live in Indianapolis with my sweet husband of 2 years, Carlin, and our 2 dogs and 4 cats (you read this correctly, we have this many animals, but that is another story). We are active in our church, and love the Indianapolis Colts.

I’ve always had a love for all sorts of crafts. Paper-crafting, specifically card making  is a passion of mine. I love the escape that card-making provides, and that I can complete  one in a relatively short amount of time. Plus, who doesn’t love receiving a handmade card in the mail? It’s so nice to know that someone’s day will be brightened when they open their mailbox and find something besides bills and junk-mail.

I am so excited to be part of the Lawn Fawn design team. I love trying all sorts of new techniques in paper-crafting, but my standby is stamping. There are so many creative options with stamps that the possibilities are endless. The Lawn Fawn stamps are truly unique and open up so many creative options!

Trend Watch – Stitched Dies

Stitching is a big thing in paper crafting lately. But not everybody has a sewing machine at hand… So there are a couple of ways to add a faux stitched border to your projects. You can draw them by hand or stamp them, but there’s an easier way too. A lot of companies are releasing new dies with stitched borders now! And while I really love the depth and detail the real stitching gives, it’s a bit too much work for me to get the sewing machine out for just one card. And then these stitched dies are awesome! A quick way to ad some lovely details to your card. Let’s have a look at what you can do with them!

I’ll start with some plain square dies. The stitching gives a nice finished look and adds another (discrete) frame to the shaker element on this card from Leigh Penner.

LeAnne Pugliese really stayed in the sewing theme with this card, with a stitched border die and some little spools of thread stamps.

You can color your die-cut piece as usual and the little stitched border will look great! Like this card from Jess.

The next card from Teresa is another lovely example from a card where there’s a combination of stitched border dies and normal dies. In this card the other die interrupts the stitched border which gives it a playfull look.

Next to the plain square dies there are a lot of other shapes with stitched borders. Like this party banner shape from Lawn Fawn that Lydia Brooke used. She also used it with a speech bubble die on top of the card, the stitched border continues around the card this way. This gives the card a great finished look.

Yukari used a lovely scalloped stitched border die for her card.

Most of the stitched border dies are great to combine with each other. Kim used several different dies on her card and they look great together.

Torico also used several stitched dies on her lovely card.

Paper smooches has a set with stitched borders in different shapes, which just add a stitched line to your project. This gives you the freedom of using the stitched borders but without a diecut shape around it. Lynn used it on this card.

You can find a lot of beautiful inspiration online on how to use these stitched dies. But after these great cards, here’s a list with great stitched dies!

Welcome to another Featured Artist/Designer Spotlight.  Today we’re thrilled to welcome Therese Calvird. Before we show you Therese’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…

ThereseCalvirdProfilePic-09252014-250WHi it’s Therese here and I’m so excited to be playing at the Paper Crafter’s Library today.  I live on the Gold Coast in Australia with golden beaches on one side and rainforests on the other.  I’ve always enjoyed anything crafty but ‘found’ cards about 10 years ago and since then all else has been forgotten.  I am lucky enough to have my own studio and unsuccessfully try not to fill it with all the fabulous goodies that are around.  Currently I’m on design teams for Scrapbook Boutique, AnnaBelle Stamps, Purple Onion Designs, Muse and Mama Elephant & Me.  I also create for the Australian Cardmaking, Stamping & Papercraft magazine.  It’s fun to juggle all this with my full time nursing career.  I enjoy challenging myself to try different techniques and love to share my creations.  You can find me at my blog www.lostinpaper.wordpress.com , Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube.

My favourite style is clean & simple with lots of bright bold colours and I also adore flowers.  So today I’ve combined all of that and now you can join in and watch me create this simple card.

About CAS-ual Fridays Stamps

Founded in 2012, CAS-ual Fridays Stamps is a small company with big ideas located in beautiful Colorado. The stamps are made of the finest clear photopolymer available, and proudly made in the Heartland of America. They love ink and stamp like a dream! Our new line of Fri-Dies will coordinate with lots of our stamp sets, and are also made right here in the USA.

My designs are based on my love for Clean And Simple design, hence the CAS in our name, but will delight any stamper’s style. Whether you are a CAS enthusiast, or lover of Utterly Adorable Layers, you will have a blast getting inky with them.

New designs are released nearly every month. We’ll always start the party off with amazing sneak peeks from the Girl Fridays, and your chance to win prizes on the store blog. We’ll continue with inspirations and tips throughout the month for your oohing and aahing pleasure, so be sure to follow our blog or facebook page so you don’t miss anything. You’ll also want to follow us on Pinterest where each stamp and die set has it’s very own board filled with amazing project inspiration.

Please visit the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps website to see all the designs we have for you to ooh and aah over, and check out the list of stores where you can find them. I truly had a blast designing these stamps and dies, and I just can’t wait for you to start having fun with them!

CAS-ual Fridays Stamps Designer: Angie Tieman

Today we welcome Angie Tieman. We are so excited to have her showcase her work today on Paper Crafter’s Library. You can see Angie’s projects below, but first, here is a little more about her:

AngieTiemanProfilePic-09242014-250WHi! My name is Angie Tieman, and I’m a Missouri girl living in Dallas, TX. My day job is awesome, teaching 3th – 5th grade struggling readers, even though it seriously interferes with my stamping time. I used to call myself a lazy stamper, but that was before the term “clean and simple” came along. So now I’m mainly a clean and simple stamper who occasionally makes a card my husband of 24 years describes as having “a lot of stuff going on.” When I’m not paper-crafting, I’m reading a book, hanging out with my girlfriends, or snuggling with my dog Scout.

With fall and the Thanksgiving holiday approaching us here in the US and Canada, it’s the perfect time to play with the CAS-ual Friday Stamps Wheat Wreath and Amber Waves. The watercoloring trend is big right now, but since I’m a lazy, I mean clean and simple, stamper, I have had no patience with trying to watercolor. That is until I learned you could just color some markers on a clear stamp, mist it with some water, and press it down on watercolor paper. Boom. Watercoloring.

Many Thanks Card

For the card below, I colored the beautiful harvest wreath from Wheat Wreath using mustard, olive, and two shades of rust markers. Once I finished coloring, I sprayed it with water in a mister bottle, stamped it and let it dry. Lastly, I inked the harvest wreath in Versamark ink, stamped it again, and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I love how the gold layer is slightly offset so the watercolor shows behind it. That’s called a happy accident from me not lining it up correctly. Happy accidents in stamping are the best! To finish the card off, I flicked some gold shine spray on it and heat embossed the sentiment from Amber Waves in gold on a wooden banner. I like having dimension to my clean and simple cards, and usually I’m a stickler for a nice, flat panel and achieve that by gluing it to a piece of chipboard. But here I attached the panel just as it was, watercolored, wavy, and buckled, with foam dots.

Grateful Card

For my second card, I used the wheat sheaf stamp from Amber Waves with the nifty watercolor trick again. I colored in the stamp with gold and tan markers, misted it with water, and stamped on watercolor paper. To add some texture, I pulled the threads out of a piece of burlap ribbon and attached them over the stamped image. I added a little wooden button and stamped the sentiment Grateful from the Wheat Wreath stamp set. I attached the watercolor paper to a piece of chipboard here to give it a flat, sturdy appearance and attached it to the card base with foam dots.

Trend Watch – Cameras and Film

Filmstrips, Polaroid pictures, and bulky cameras seem to be a thing of the past in some ways.  However, you can bring these classic shapes into your paper projects with a number of adorable stamp sets, designer paper, and other accessories.

Julie used the cute stamps by Stampin’ Up to create this great birthday card.  I love the colors incorporated into the designer paper in the background.

Neat & Tangled recently came out with a cute stamp set called Photo Booth that makes such fun filmstrip designs.  This card by Miriam uses a bunch of cute sentiments and the splatter is the perfect finishing touch.

So many great cards can be made with Polaroid frames, such as this one by Lawn Fawn.  I love how Kelly’s card has the elephant and balloons slightly outside the frame to make it look just like a picture.

Featured Artist/Designer: Jen Chesnick

Today we’re thrilled to welcome Jen Chesnick. Before we show you Jen’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…

JenChesnickProfilePic-09182014-250WHi my name is Jen Chesnick, I go by Chez too. A long time family nickname that I married into and it just kind of took a life of its own. Currently I live in the great state of Maryland with my husband Bill, my daughter Parker and my bonus daughter Tori. I sell cheese and crackers by day for Mondelez International and by night I craft, scrapbook and obsess over Pinterest & Facebook. Not only am I a social media addict I watch almost all reality TV it’s quite ridiculous. Remember The Real World? That’s where it ALL started. When I am not cooped up in the house I like to travel, and don’t be shocked but I love to camp. As long as I have wi-fi and a power strip all is well in the world.

I started scrapbooking in 2006 after seeing one of my Mothers scrapbooks. I’ve always been a pretty crafty gal. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of making crafts in Girl Scouts and patching together random fabric pieces making clothes. Paper crafting has turned into a full on obsession.

Go Dude Layout

This photo of my daughter and my husband skateboarding is one of my very favs!  I let that be the inspiration for my page.  I use “boy themed” collections a lot even though I have a little girl.  The color schemes are some of my favorite color combinations by far.  For this layout I focused on the photo overlays and frames.  I used them as a backdrop for my embellishment clusters and then again as an overlay for my photo.
