Before we move on to today’s videos, I wanted to take a minute to introduce you to Spellbinders.

About Spellbinders

As a scrapbooking and craft enthusiast, Stacey Caron identified the market need for one die cutting system that could function in place of several existing tools. She wanted a comprehensive craft tool that would be universal with manufacturers’ existing products, cut, emboss, be portable, and be sturdy enough to withstand the test of time. As a result of Stacey’s entrepreneurial spirit, and her husband Jeff’s creative ingenuity, in 2003 the Wizard Universal Craft Tool was born, along with Spellbinders patented technology Die Templates for cutting, embossing and stenciling.

Spellbinders Paper Arts manufactures, markets and sells the Grand Calibur™ machine, a large format die cutting and embossing machine, and more than 250 patented and patent-pending products under the following trade names: Nestabilities®—nested die templates offering cutting and embossing capability in ¼” and ⅛” increments; Edgeabilities®—versatile edge and detail cutting die templates;Shapeabilities®—the first free-form, shaped die templates, offering the ability to cut or emboss in the center of cards and in any orientation.

Several new collections have been added since 2008, including: Borderabilities® Petite—5½” card making die templates featuring one-cut edges and elegant embossing detail; Borderabilities Grand—12″ scrapbooking die templates to create full-page borders;Shapeabilities Nested Sets – incrementally sized shaped die templates and Nesties®—Nestabilities sets that combine four die template collections for great savings.

In 2010, Spellbinders introduced the Presto Punch™ machine, the first automatic punching and embossing machine, and theGrand Calibur™ die cutting and embossing machine, which can die cut or emboss up to 8¼” wide.

Spellbinders continues to demonstrate ingenuity, integrity and trend setting ideas while remaining a family-owned, customer service oriented business.

Introduction To Spellbinders M-Bossibilities

Today’s projects focus on the Spellbinders M-Bossabilities.  They are THE most amazing embossing folders I’ve ever used because with each folder you buy, you actually get TWO designs.   Watch the video below to find out more and to learn the different ways you can use them.

Exquisitively Yours Card

Our free project video tutorial today is this Exquisitely Yours card which was created by Tracy.  In this card Tracy die cut and layered the Labels 16 Nestabilities to create the focal point of her card.  She then embossed the Pear Pizzazz CS and Terracotta Tile CS labels each with a different M-Bossability.  She also uses the Spellbiners Classic Brackets Edgeabilities to create a decorative strip across the center of her card.  The papers she used are from Graphic 45’s Olde Curiosity Shoppe collection and the gorgeous green ric rac ribbon is the Sage Velvet Ric Rac from May Arts.

A Bit About Paper Crafter’s Library

The world of paper crafting is HUGE! Whether you are a beginner, or you’ve been creating for years, the sheer number of different products, tools, techniques and project ideas can be overwhelming. After spending 6 years helping thousands of paper crafters around the world become more successful in the creative space through her series of kits, digital tutorials and online classes, Andrea Walford began looking for a new approach to education. In 2011 she launched Paper Crafter’s Library – the first, and still to this day, only website that provides an all-in-one learning solution for paper crafters. With almost 800 videos currently in their library and 4-5 new videos added each week, Paper Crafter’s Library offers comprehensive training on products, tools, techniques, and project ideas. From beginner through to advanced, whether your interest is in stamping, card making, scrapbooking, creating 3D items or altered art – you’ll find all the resources you need to navigate the world of paper crafting in ONE place, organized and indexed so that it’s quick and easy to find.

Graphic 45 Guest Designer: Arlene Cuevas

Many of you may remember that back in April we hosted a Graphic 45 Week on the Paper Crafter’s Library Blog.  It was week filled with projects and inspiration using Graphic 45’s Tropical Travelogue Collection. We had such a great experience partnering with Graphic 45 and their design team, and such a great response from you, that we’ve decided to partner with them on an ongoing basis.  The first and third week of every month one of the Graphic 45 Designers will share a project they’ve created here on the PCL Blog.    Two weeks ago we had our first designer and before I introduce you to our second Designer, I just wanted to take a minute to re-introduce Graphic 45 for those of you that may not be familiar with the company.

Graphic 45 is an award-winning scrapbook and paper crafting company— owned and operated by a mother and her two daughters.

Diane Schultz (pictured center)—Designer and CEO (aka mother)

“I’m passionate about being creative and eager to make it possible for others to find their creative voice. My background includes stints as a designer for, McCalls, Simplicity, Vogue/ Butterick, Mattel Toy Company and a host of other jobs that each, in some way, led me to what I do now. At 45 I went back to school and got my degree in graphic design— I named the company to celebrate that achievement.”

Aimee Filimoehala (pictured left) —Director of Operations

“I wear a lot of hats and love it that way.  Business, marketing, operations, etc. have made me a pro at multitasking (aka juggling‑figuratively and literally). When we launched Graphic 45 just three years ago we had no idea what was in store, working together as a family has been an amazing journey that we all feel so grateful to be apart of.”

Charee Filimoehala (pictured right)—Director of Customer Service and Design Team Coordinator

“I joined the team a little over three years ago and haven’t looked back…what a life-changing experience this has been.  I love working with and around creative people and products (not to mention I like my co-workers quite a bit).  I spend my days working with our friendly stores and talented design team…the occasional trip to a workshop or tradeshow pretty nice too.”

Together we create vintage inspired crafting products that capture the flamboyant style of the 1920’s and 30’s – with vibrant color, irresistible texture and imaginative design to create products with decades-old appeal that’s both fresh and familiar. Let our products inspire your next scrapbook layout, card, album or home decor project.

***********

Here’s a picture of their booth at the CHA show which absolutely blows us away every year! The artwork inside is absolutely stunning and totally unique.  At the last show as we were speaking with Diane she told us that many of the altered pieces were vintage finds which she and her team transformed with their gorgeous Graphic 45 products.  We can’t wait to stop by their booth at the Chicago CHA and see what they’ve got in store this year!

Here’s a picture of the Graphic 45 team – they’re always dressed in period costumes to complement the themes in their collections – every day of the show brings a new set of costumes.  The ones shown below were for their Little Darlings collection.

Graphic 45 Designer Arlene Cuevas

Our next Graphic 45 Guest Designer for this month is Arlene Cuevas.  Arlene is part of the 2012 Graphic 45 Design Team.

 Cuevas

You can see Arlene’s fabulous projects below, but first, here is a little more about Arlene:

Hi there, my name is Arlene Cuevas! Creating has always been a passion of mine ever since I can remember. When I was young, one could always find me on the dining room table creating something! And when I get in my zone, there’s no coming out!

I attended my first craft party in 1994 where I dabbled in card-making and scrapbook layouts. I was instantly hooked on paper crafts! I found the scrapbooking community on YouTube in 2008 and grew quite fond of creating mini albums and altered art. I also enjoy stamping, art journalling, and Copic coloring. I love to experiment and express myself with different materials, products and designs… but I would describe my style as vintage-grunge with a splash of shabby chic! I love to share tutorials and “how to’s” on my Youtube channel “mybutterflykisses12” and blog (butterflykisseswithlove.blogspot.com) and am fortunate to design (and have designed) for several scrapbooking companies, including Graphic 45!

I’ve been married to the love of my life for 12 years and we have 3 young boys, ages 4, 8 and 10. To keep the balance in my home full of men, I have a 3-year old toy Yorkie named Nala — she’s my princess! I live in sunny California and work full-time for a large fortune 500 internet company. I’m a product manager by day, crafter by night! Ask anyone who knows me… coffee and chocolate are the two evils that I cannot live without! 🙂

Now you can see the first of her two projects below.  This first project is a Le Cirque Shadow Box Project.

Here are the supplies used:

Introduction To Spellbinders Cut Fold Tuck Dies

The Cut Fold Tuck dies are a unique concept whereby after you die cut your shape, with a few folds and tucks you’ve got a gorgeous geometric design.

 Round About Gift Box

Our first project for today is tho Round About Gift Box – an open top design allowing you to wrap your contents in cello, tie it with a pretty bow and then tuck it inside your box.  To create this project Sophia uses the Round About Cut Fold Tuck die to create the main decorative element on her bow.  There is a free video tutorial and pdf handout below.

I would definitely say that this last card has to be my favourite – I just love how Sophia created a pop-up card that incorporated photos of her children.  Can you see the expression on Grandma’s face when she opens this card?  Of course if were me, I’d be tempted to keep it for myself LOL.  Introduction To Spellbinders Shapeabilities

 Imagine The Possibilities

Our first card for today was created by Tracy and incorporates the Wonderful Wings Grand Shapeabilities along with some Edgeabilities (which we’ll introduce to you on Thursday).  This card incorporates a number of different techniques – so because of the length of the video we had to divide it into four parts.  You can watch all four parts and dowload the PDF handout below.

Trendy Tuesday – Wood Buttons

 Trendy Tuesday – Wood Buttons
By Colleen Harshaw

Several weeks ago, one of our readers at the Paper Crafter’s Library suggested an article on the subject of wood buttons.  We aim to please, so here it is!  I am happy to share with you everything that I have learned about this trend.

First, I have several sample projects to show you, in order to give you some fun ideas on how to incorporate wood buttons into your own projects.

This first project is a card created by Joanne Basile.  She has a wonderful blog over at stampedbyhand.blogspot.com and I often feature her projects in my articles here at the Paper Crafter’s Library.  Joanne is always right on trend!  On this card Joanne has used a wood button as the center of one of her flowers.  This is a very popular way to put these buttons to use, and you have likely seen other projects like this.

This second project is one of Joanne’s also.  She has used two wood buttons on this tag she created for mftstamps.com.  The first is at the top, where the ribbon is fastened to the tag, and the second button can be seen in the grouping with the flowers.  Joanne always finishes her buttons off with some twine or ribbon tied through the holes.  She has mentioned before that she does not like ‘naked’ buttons!  It is really a matter of preference, and you can all choose for yourselves.  🙂

This next project is a scrapbook layout by Jill Sprott.  She is a Garden Girl (aka design team member) over at twopeasinabucket.com.  She has used etched wood buttons in a grouping of three on her scrapbook page shown below.

This next project is another scrapbook layout.  I wanted to share it with you because the artist used heart shaped wood buttons.  How cute are they?!  They tie in so nicely with the patterned paper in the background of the layout.  In this example the buttons are ‘naked’ but still completely adorable!

Now it is time to shift gears away from scrapbook layouts and onto something new!  This next project is a candle cover created by the poster known as ‘tennisgirl27’ over at twopeasinabucket.com.  She has used a wood button as a flower center, just like Joanne did in the first project I shared with you above.  I thought her candle cover was very creative (I have never covered a candle myself!) and I thought that the wood button fit into her fall theme perfectly.  It lends an earthy feel to the project, don’t you think?

I LOVE this next scrapbook layout.  I thought that the artist used the buttons and embellishments in such a creative way!  The layout itself is actually very simple….not too many layers or techniques are going on here.  I just love how she created the grid pattern using squares of paper to feature her buttons and embellishments.  Very clever!  I can’t wait to try this myself!

This next project shows how wood buttons can be used on an altered journal cover.  I always try to give you ideas of different ways in which you can use the products that I write about.  I am sure you don’t want to look at 13 different scrapbook layouts or 26 different cards!  Variety keeps things interesting!  So, on that note, I was excited to find this journal that I could share with you.

For my last project sample, I want to show you one more card.  I really love the simplicity of this card.  It would come together so quickly, but yet it is still beautiful!  Note that these buttons are not ‘naked’.  🙂  The artist has chosen to use thread to fill the button holes.  This wedding card is simple and elegant, and I love it.

Now comes the fun stuff.  Shopping!  I am a complete enabler when it comes to this stuff.   I find that when I look through all of these samples, I get inspired and excited.  Then I want to try all of the techniques, layouts and ideas that I have found, and that invariably leads to some shopping taking place.  I am working on it though….I really am!

First up, I found these wood buttons by American Crafts.  They are from a line called Gardenia Elements.  These buttons are available on amazon.com as well as at other online retailers.  American Crafts offers other wood buttons as well.  I came across some very cute ones from their Dear Lizzy Neapolitan Collection, which are available at scrapbook.com.

Next, I found some shaped, painted wood buttons from Prima.  They are very cute, but you almost can’t tell that they are wood!  It really depends what look you are after, whether you would chose this option or a more traditional wood button.  I like that these buttons are shaped, and as we saw in the scrapbook layout by ‘melissamann’, shown above, shaped buttons can be very effective!

These etched wood buttons are by Basic Grey.  They are from the Picadilly line and they are available from twopeasinabucket.com.   Two Peas In A Bucket has a wide selection of wood buttons from several different companies available on their website.

These next two examples of wood buttons are from Bella Blvd.  This company has a large selection of decorated wood buttons.  They come in the two patterns shown below, as well as snowflakes, zebra, pink flora, bursts, purple flora, tie dye and a wood mix.  These buttons are all available on scrapbook.com.

These alterable wood buttons are from Maya Road.  They can be decorated with acrylic paint, inks, mists or stains for your craft projects.  They are available from amazon.com or twopeasinabucket.com.

These etched wood buttons are from  Jillibean Soup, the Cool Beans Collection.  They have other wood buttons available too, specifically, ones that are etched with butterflies.  You can find them on scrapbook.com as well.

Moving away from traditional buttons, I want to share this option with you also.  There are many kinds of wood grain paper and cardstock available on the market right now.  These thin dies give you the choice to create your own pseudo wood buttons.  The dies can be used with many different ‘sandwich type’ die cutting machines on the market.  Paired with wood grain paper, you have the look of wood buttons, without the bulk.  This can be handy, especially if you are sending your creations through the mail.

This last item that I would like to share with you is one that I discovered at CKC Cincinnati last fall.  It is a tool from Epiphany Crafts that allows you to create your own custom acrylic buttons.   The tool functions as a punch, punching out a shape, and then it allows you to cover the punched out shape with an acrylic ‘bubble’ in order to protect it, and to give your ‘button’ dimension.  With this tool, you can create buttons with any pattern of paper you desire…including wood grain.  Do you see where I am going with this?  Yes, you can create wood grain looking buttons, covered in acrylic.  This tool also allows you to always have the perfect matching button for your projects, without digging through buckets of old buttons in frustration.  Epiphany Crafts has these tools in other shapes as well.  You can learm more about them at epiphanycrafts.com.

Well, there you have it….everything that I have to share about wood buttons!  I hope you have found this information helpful.  If you have any suggestions for topics for Trendy Tuesday that you would like to learn more about, feel free to send us a message via the Paper Crafter’s Library.  We would be happy to research the subject and share what we learn with you all!

Thanks for reading and I will see you next time!

With their HUGE selection of die templates in all sorts of shapes and sizes and the ability of their dies to both cut and emboss, Spellbinders die templates are the perfect addition to any project!

Every day this week we’ll be introducing you to a different Spellbinders collection and sharing fantastic projects ideas, including of course free video tutorials.  The best part?  Spellbinder’s has generously donated a prize for each and every day this week!  You can see today’s prize pictured below. Please note that the winner of each day’s prize will be announced on Friday at 11 pm EST.

Today’s Prize – Spellbinders Labels Four Nestabilities

Introduction To Spellbinders Grand Calibur

I wanted to start off today’s post with a video we released previously – Introduction to Spellbinders Grand Calibur – because throughout the week in all of our videos we reference cutting our Spellbinders die templates using the Grand Calibur. So for those of you that are not familiar with this machine, we wanted to show you all it’s features and exactly how to use it.  Now although the Grand Calibur is my die cutting machine of choice, you are certainly not limited to it – Spellbinders dies are compatible with other die cutting machines including the Big Shot and the Cuttlebug.

 Introduction To Spellbinders Nestabilities

Today we’re focusing on Spellbinders Nestabilities and Grand Nestabilities.  In the video below we’ll introduce you to these products as well as share with you some of their main features.

Cutting and Embossing with Spellbinders Die Templates

In this next video I begin by showing you how to die cut and emboss using your Spellbinders Die Templates and then take you through a whole bunch of other ways that you can use them such as creating mats, frames, window cards and shaped cards.

Using Spellbinders Dies as Stencils & Masks

In addition to their die cutting and embossing features, Spellbinders dies can be used as stencils and masks.  In the video below I share with you four different ways you can use your dies, die cut shapes and negatives as stencils or masks.

Love You Card

Okay, and now onto our projects for today. In this first project I (Andrea) show you how easy it is to create a simple yet striking card using one of the Spellbinders Nestabilities Heart Shape.  The letters I used on this card to spell out the word “love” are also Spellbinders dies, but they are the Presto Punch Noble Roman Lower Alphabet.  If you missed our video on the Spellbinders Presto Punch, you can watch it here.

Download the pdf handout here

True Friendship Card

Our second card for today demonstrates the way in which the Spellbinders Grand Nestabililities increment up from the regular Nestabilities.  In the card shown below, Tracy used the Labels 4 Nestabilities for the main label, and then matted it with the Grand Labels 4 dies.

For our give-away we’ve put together the prize pack shown above consisting of products from the Sun Kiss collection – a little bit of all the different papers, flowers and embellishments within that collection which were generously provided by Prima. Before we get started showing you the projects though, here’s a bit about Prima:

About Prima Marketing

Prima is all about flowers….and now we are even more! As scrapbooking evolves and changes into an exciting art form, Prima, the established leader in flower embellishments, always offers the most exciting and innovative floral-themed products to craft retailers worldwide. Season after season, Prima introduces artisans and crafters to a huge collection of the best flower styles for scrapbook embellishments ever made. We use a wide variety of materials to create these floral masterpieces, from mulberry paper to luxury fabrics of all types. Our flowers are hand-made by skilled artisans, never by machine, in processes that ensure the finest quality and craftsmanship available.

Our trend-setting crystal designs are as unique and breath-taking as our flowers. We were the first to create dramatic swirl designs in rhinestones, pearls, in combinations, and to include in tiny flowers, butterflies, and lace.

In 2010, Prima introduced a line of stationery products imprinted with delightful characters full of personality. The whimsical images are represented on photocards, bookplates, invitations, stamps, and cards. In keeping with our floral traditions, there are also offerings of wrapping papers, flowers with matching ribbon, and floral trimmed cupcake boxes.

As trends and technology enter our marketplace, Prima keeps pace by opening a digital scrapbooking site, Prima Hybrid, which is open to the public. There are many great digital elements available that work perfectly with a variety of our flowers and other physical products.

The year 2010 introduced our free “Live With Prima” webcasts, in which several prominent craft educators teach and demonstrate the latest Prima products and papercraft techniques, using the newest and best from our Prima collections. These episodes air twice weekly to a large audience of enthusiastic participants. The chat is lively and friendly…a great place to party with Prima.

Prima is a wholesale only company, with the exception of Prima Hybrid. We have in-house Sales Representatives to assist your every need. We are an International company and are represented by several distributors. Please check our Distributor tab for additional information and other international customer requirements.

As a responsible manufacturer, Prima is committed to re-cycling and environmentally safe production methods. We use re-cycled materials and renewable resources whenever possible, including our own production waste papers. Many of our packaging designs are suitable to be re-purposed into scrapbook embellishments. As flower makers, we are naturally sensitive to the natural beauty around us and will make every effort to ensure we actively keep our world safe.

Prima Marketing Spotlight – Sun Kiss Collection Day 1

Today we’re starting another 2 day spotlight on the Paper Crafter’s Library Blog. This time we’re focusing on a company I’m sure most of you are familiar with – Prima Marketing. I first became familiar with Prima years ago because of their gorgeous flowers. It was only after I started spending time browsing their website and blog that I realized how much more they carry – so many beautiful collections with coordinating papers and accessories, and of course, flowers.

Since they have so many different collections, each equally stunning, we decided that we would focus on one collection – the Sun Kiss collection. So today and tomorrow you’ll be seeing a bunch of projects using that collection, including of course free video tutorials and a give-away.

Be sure to sign up for our free email newsletter which features weekly video tutorials. For more information about Paper Crafter’s Library and how we can help you take your paper crafting to the next level, check out the Benefits of Becoming a Member.
