Graphic45Prize-09172014

For those of you unfamiliar with Graphic 45, we’d like to take a minute to re-introduce them to you.

Graphic 45 is an award-winning scrapbook and paper crafting company— owned and operated by a mother and her two daughters.

Diane Schultz—Designer and CEO (aka mother)

“I’m passionate about being creative and eager to make it possible for others to find their creative voice. My background includes stints as a designer for, McCalls, Simplicity, Vogue/ Butterick, Mattel Toy Company and a host of other jobs that each, in some way, led me to what I do now. At 45 I went back to school and got my degree in graphic design— I named the company to celebrate that achievement.”

Aimee Filimoehala —Director of Operations

“I wear a lot of hats and love it that way. Business, marketing, operations, etc. have made me a pro at multitasking (aka juggling‑figuratively and literally). When we launched Graphic 45 in 2008 we had no idea what was in store, working together as a family has been an amazing journey that we all feel so grateful to be apart of.”

Charee Filimoehala —Director of Customer Service and Social Media Coordinator

“I joined the team in 2009 and haven’t looked back…what a life-changing experience this has been. I love working with and around creative people and products (not to mention I like my co-workers quite a bit). I spend my days working with our friendly stores and talented design team…the occasional trip somewhere warm is pretty nice too.”

Together we create vintage inspired crafting products that capture the flamboyant style of the 1920’s and 30’s – with vibrant color, irresistible texture and imaginative design to create products with decades-old appeal that’s both fresh and familiar. Let our products inspire your next scrapbook layout, card, album or home decor project.

Graphic 45 Designer Donna Espiritu

Our Graphic 45 Guest Designer for this week is Donna Espiritu who is part of the 2014 Graphic 45 Design Team. You can see Donna’s fabulous project below, but first, here is a little more about her:

DonnaEspirituProfilePic-09172014-250WMy name is Donna Espiritu. I’m from the Philippines currently living in Saudi Arabia with my husband. You would always see me, hubby, my nieces and nephew, family, and friends as usual subjects in my projects. But we’re expecting our first child this coming November 2014 and we’re so excited! So stay-tuned for my own baby’s photos soon in my scrapbook pages. I have been scrapbooking since 2004, when I got married. I think of myself as a crafty person ever since so when I came across scrapbooking through the net I got interested right away. I also dabbled into digital and hybrid scrapbooking a few years later. I loved it as well! I love learning new things and how I was able to incorporate digital into paper/traditional scrapbooking. I also tried my hands in card making, altering stuff and mixed-media. I think I am addicted to the smell of new papers! I also collect pens – journaling pens, glittered, calligraphy pens, any kind – one way or another I’ve got to have my own hand-writing into my creations.  Currently I am in the design team for Graphic 45 and a Dubai-based online store, Pretty Paper Studio.  You can see more of my creations here on my blog.  I can also be found on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram and Snapguide.

Botanical Tea Mini Album

Hi everyone! I always have a thing with mini-albums so that’s what I decided to create for today’s post. I used the beautiful “Botanical Tea” collection by Graphic 45, along with some of their Metal Staples (clothespins and brads), cardstock stickers, banners etc, and stuff from my own stash.

Trend Watch – Shaping Up Your Card Inspiration

Shaped cards are a great way to bring new ideas to your greeting cards.  There are so many new great dies that you can use.  Some of the clever artists we are featuring this week even created their own patterns for these awesome cards.  I have found that in the past, I used shaped cards only for kids cards but there are so many new cool options, you don’t need to be limited at all.  So be prepared to be inspired by cool new shaped cards for something a little different for your greeting cards.

This first card is a great one for a first birthday or a mother to be card.  The shape is a basic one, you can recreate but the details on this baby bib card make it such a stunner.

Cameras are so trendy right now.  I just love how Laura created the look of an old fashioned camera complete with an appropriately funny camera pun for the sentiment on the front of the card.  Double whammy!

This little camper is such an adorable addition to a collection of shaped cards.  The little door opens so you can include treats inside or an invitation for a romantic road trip.  It kind of makes me want to camp even though my Winnebago experiences were less than awesome – but this card seems to make up for it.

Mel does some wonderful things with toast on her blog.  This was my favorite because the crust outline was just too cute.  And really, toast with a face, mustache and glasses is just to cool to pass up.

The amount of patience these shorts took must have been incredible.  May actually hand stitched the jean seams in addition to creating her own pattern for the jeans!  They are just awesome.  The sentiment is perfect for these too and you can adjust it depending on the occasion.  Did I mention that the panties come out for another message?  She thought of everything with this card.

This fun card wishes you many fishes and a big wish.  Okay, I had to work too hard for that pun but I think this card is just so adorable.  It was inspired by a stamp.  Inspiration is everywhere for your next shaped beauty.

Ice cream makes everyone happy and this next ice cream cone is no exception.  It is so darling.  I love the detail on the butterfly ribbon and the strings around the cone.

I think this card is so clever for a girlfriend get together.  You can make the front of the card show the sentiment but the tag is such a cute option too.

I immediately thought of a going away card for a coworker when I saw these awesome suitcases.  But they also work really well for a vacation card.  Check out the blog for the simple pattern explanation to recreate these suitcases.

Owls are so cute.  I still love them even though we are on the downside of the owl trend.  I just loved that this card is made up of dies and shapes that many of us already have in our craft rooms.  Click on the picture for the pattern specs.

Tell me these don’t just make you smile.  Do you remember Underoos?  They were licensed super hero underwear sets for boys and girls that you could wear under you clothes.  I was partial to Wonder Woman.  All of them were awesome.  This superman under armor is just awesome!  Look at the detail in these shorts.  Just love them.

Another great idea for a girlfriend thinking of you card is this awesome retro phone.  Moe used a cut file to create this beauty and she even added an action wobble to the phone dial.  Super fun.

Shaped cards should definitely be in your repertoire for greeting cards.  You can use anything you love or the person loves for inspiration.  You don’t necessarily need a pattern or a die but you can use those too.  You can also make them work for everyone on your card list.  I hope you found some fun inspiration for this evergreen trend.

So go ahead… make something pretty.

I found a few dies and stamps that can provide even more inspiration for a few shaped cards of your own.

Art Journal Express: “The Walls That Caged Me” Video Tutorial

ArtJournalExpressLogo-550W Welcome to another edition of Art Journal Express brought to you by Andrea from her personal blog Andrea Walford Designs.

Art Journal Express is a video tutorial series she created for her personal blog Andrea Walford Designs. In each video, you will see how she created one of her art journal pages from start to finish. Because a typical art journal page takes between 20 minutes to an hour for her to create – which makes for a super long video to upload to You Tube, and for you to watch – the video clips are sped up, rather than having you watch what she’s doing in real time – hence the word “express” in Art Journal Express. However, what makes these video tutorials different from most of the “sped up” art journaling video tutorials out there is that Andrea narrates for you exactly what she’s doing and what she’s using – that way, even though you’re watching a “fast forward” version, you don’t miss a single detail.

The videos are hosted on a You Tube Channel that is separate from the Paper Crafter’s Library You Tube Channel, so if you don’t want to miss a single edition of Art Journal Express please subscribe to that You Tube Channel (you can do so from the video tutorial page from today’s post).

Today’s page is called “The Walls That Caged Me” – shown below. You can watch a video tutorial HERE.

Featured Artist/Designer: Bev Kastman Buenker

Today we’re thrilled to welcome Bev Kastman Buenker.  Before we show you Bev’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…

BevProfilePic-09112014-250HMy name is Bev, and I’m a Christian wife, mother and grandmother, and a card making addict. I’m an Air Force brat and have lived in many, many places, but have made Wisconsin my home for more than 30 years now. DH and I have eight grown children, and 20 (yes, you read that right) grandchildren. A history major in college, I was fortunate enough to work in my local history museum after graduation. It was pure joy to learn so much about my adopted city of Racine, Wisconsin through my work there.  I retired from the working world last year, and am enjoying my stay-at-home life immensely. It’s wonderful to be able to craft at my leisure nearly every day! My life has been richly blessed, and it is my prayer that yours may be also. My blog is named ‘Happy Dance’ because the blessings, joys and wonders of my life, and those around me, make me feel that way everyday. Though I started scrapbooking almost 20 years ago, the wonderful world of cardmaking has captured my heart completely since about 2009. I’ve found that the Card Making Blog world is an amazing place, full of inspiration and through this world, I’ve made tons of wonderful new friends! It’s an honor and privilege to have been asked to stand among the many amazing Featured Artists and Designers here at Paper Crafter’s Library.

Card #1

While this is a sympathy card, this white-on-white design would also make a lovely wedding or anniversary card. Very simple to make, using my Silhouette Cameo to cut the frame, and a computer generated sentiment in gold. The base and frame are both Neenah White cardstock.

Bev1-09112014-550W

To make this card, create a 4.25″ x 5.5″ card base. Die cut with Silhouette ‘Wrought Iron Frame,’ #49310. Remove shape from mat, and adhere to base. Print sentiment and cut to size. Insert sentiment panel to center of frame.

Card #2

A more feminine look, this birthday card uses one of my favorite color combinations; turquoise, white and yellow. Easy to make, and although the bow takes a smidgen of practice, it’s well worth it in the end. Supplies for this one are: Bazzill turquoise cardstock, Neenah white cardstock, Canvas Corp yellow and white polka dot designer paper, Michaels ribbon, MFT fishtail flag die, and a PTI birthday die.

Bev2-09112014-550W

Begin with a 4.25″ x 5.5″ turquoise base. Cut a 4″ x 5.25″ panel from designer paper and adhere to base. Die cut a 1″ wide fishtail flag, then place ‘birthday’ die on top of the flag and die cut. Leave all pieces of sentiment in place and adhere to polka dot panel. Double tie bow using the tutorial by Jak Heath found on YouTube. Adhere bow and trim ends to desired length.

Card #3

This one is a very simple “Hello” card. Except for the Neenah white base, I’ve used scraps, and heartily apologize for not being able to tell you the manufacturers of the yellow and blue cardstock, or the designer paper. I’ve used a flair button from Simple Stories I {heart} Papers, a speech bubble die from MFT, and a “Hello” die from Lawn Fawn.

Bev3-09112014-550W

Start with your 4.25″ x 5.5″ base and round two corners. Die cut speech bubble, and place your word die where it most pleases your eye. Die cut into speech bubble and save interior bits. Die cut yellow and blue Hello. Adhere the bottom half of speech bubble onto card base. Adhere blue hello, and add in the “bits.” Adhere the top half of the speech bubble. Offset and adhere the yellow “Hello.” Add flair button.

We hope you have enjoyed today’s projects courtesy of Bev Kastman Buenker. Be sure to stop by Bev’s blog to see even more of her beautiful work (and let her know we sent you).

Have a great day!

About May Arts Ribbon

May Arts Ribbon was founded in the early 1980’s in Riverside, Connecticut. The original products were high-end silk flowers imported from Taiwan, which were decorated using quality ribbons. The decorative ribbons proved so popular among customers that the business gradually evolved into a dedicated ribbon wholesaler.

As a family-owned and operated business, May Arts Ribbon began a long-standing tradition of quality, affordability and exceptional customer service. They are dedicated to carrying on this same tradition by offering high quality products at competitive prices. Their friendly, knowledgeable staff is always happy to answer your questions or to assist you in placing your order.

May Arts Ribbon carries a wide selection of quality ribbons to choose from; such as grosgrain, silk, satin, burlap and a variety of prints and patterns. All inventory is held in stock, so they can ship orders out right away—typically the same day.

Where to Buy May Arts Ribbons

The May Arts Ribbon website is their wholesale site for online and brick and mortar retailers. We’ve linked to it so that you can easily view their entire product line in one place. There are numerous places where you can purchase May Arts Ribbon ribbons including many local scrapbook stores as well as online stores. Two of the online stores that carry the biggest selections that we are aware of include Amazon and Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.  Amazon carries the complete May Arts Ribbon line (plus you can qualify for free shipping). Click on the link we provided and it will take you to our May Arts Ribbon search results. To find a particular ribbon, go to the May Arts Ribbon website, find the name of the ribbon and color and then enter that into your Amazon search results. Please note that through Amazon you’re buying by the roll. Most other online and local scrapbook stores sell May Arts Ribbon ribbons by the yard.

May Arts Ribbon Designer – Jenifer Cowles

Today we welcome Jenifer Cowles. We are so excited to have her showcase her work today on Paper Crafter’s Library. You can see Jenifer’s fabulous project below, but first, here is a little more about her:

JeniferCowlesProfilePic-09102014-250WMy name is Jenifer Cowles and I live in a small town in Idaho.  I work on computers by day and scrap and sew after the kiddos go to sleep by night.  I have 3 cutie pies who give me tons to scrap about ages 14-8.  I have been doing some sort of crafting my entire life and my day just doesn’t feel complete without making something.  I love a challenge and can make just about anything.

Designer Project

I absolutely love the new adhesive scallop ribbon from May Arts Ribbon and I couldn’t wait to use it in my project.  I thought it would be fun to use the scallops like ruffles in a fun skirt.

JeniferCowles1-09102014-550W

I started with a tag and using a little paint, mist and embossing powder I created this lovely background.  I used the scallop ribbon for the underskirt on my dress form and as well as a few rows on the floor and as a border around the edge of the tag.  With the adhesive already on the scallop ribbon it makes it very easy to use and I had no problems at all getting this ribbon to stick on the embossing powder and the paint.

JeniferCowles2-09102014-550W

This is a great project to use some of the smaller scraps of ribbon you just can’t throw away.  Imagine all of the different possibilities with the wonderful variety of ribbon that May Arts Ribbon has to offer.  I hope I have inspired you to try some of the new adhesive ribbon on your next project.

Trend Watch – Fabrics: Not Just For Sewing

Being a paper crafter for 15+ years, this Trend Reporter has experimented with (almost) everything; natural/hand-made papers, foils, vellums, tissue paper, heavy and lightweight card stocks and my latest favorite, water color paper.  But what about fabrics?  After receiving my very first sewing machine in 2010 and building a small inventory of materials, I started looking at my textiles in a different light.  HEY!!  What about using fabrics in card creations?

Creating with fabrics-where have I been?  Not a new idea, of course–artisans of centuries past used many different fabrics and materials to create with and upon, and we’re not just talking tapestries here!  Today’s paper crafting and multi-media artisans are including fabrics of all ilk’s-like canvas, cotton, linen, muslin and burlap-into their creations.

Fabric canvas and Sticky Back Canvas will take your stamped creations to a whole new level.  A little fretful about bringing canvas into your card designs?  If you haven’t used it before, how about beginning ‘small’ and use canvas with your die cutting?  That’s what Amy did here with her ‘hi friend’ card.  Not only are the stamped and inked, die-cut canvas butterflies her embellishments, they’re also her focal point!

hi-friend-butterfly-cardHi Friend! card by Amy Sotolongo-www.abstractsmixedwithextracts.com

Ready to create on something a little larger?  Take this mini-masterpiece from Julia Stainton. She’s used an ATC sized canvas panel to create her beautifully stamped and water-colored floral scene upon.  This gorgeous canvas focal point lends such depth to Julia’s card-Simply Gorgeous!

untitledThe Canvas ATC card by Julia Stainton-Belle Papier for Ellen Hutson

Remember T-shirt transfer sheets?  They’re not just for transferring images onto T-shirts anymore!  You can use these products in your fabric card designs, too.  You can either print out your favorite digital images onto it, or you can stamp (using permanent inks) your images directly, before ironing onto the fabric of your choice.  Some photo style stamps work best with this technique when using fabric as your surface.

Lynne Moncrieff is one of our modern day multi-media and paper crafting artisan’s that incorporates all kinds of textiles into her creations.  This darling Valentine’s card showcases a vintage digital image that she printed onto T-shirt transfer paper, then ironed onto a recycled piece of cotton.  Fabric-licious!!

DIGITAL CAMERAWhen Cupid Strikes card by Lynne Moncrieff-Adorn

There are also pre-cut fabric shapes that simply need your creative touches to turn them into something spectacular.  Karen Crossen is using a tray to frame her garden of linen flowers that she treated with stencils and ink sprays.

happylifefinal1Linnie Blooms Shiny, Happy Life framed décor created by Karen Crossen-I Just Need More Glue

Burlap is used quite a bit in card making, usually as a background piece or as a decorative layer or embellishment.  Stamping on burlap really enhances the rustic beauty of this rough material and can even be a little romantic.  Jill Hartline owns and designs her own retail and custom line of paper products online and one of her signature invitation sets includes a romantic, heart stamped burlap envelope, customized with the bride and groom’s initials.  Are you seeing burlap being used as a stamping surface in your future creations?  I sure am!

parrish2AParrish Wedding Invitation Suite designed by Jill Hartline for www.JillHartline.com

As paper crafters branch out and start making home décor pieces, we faithfully remain true to our craft and incorporate stamping into our designs.  Holiday times are usually a catalyst for coming up with home-made, hand stamped goodies.  Look at how Melanie used burlap to make these darling, stamped Christmas ornaments.

So, whether you’re already using fabrics in your card creations or you are new to the whole idea, textiles can and will bump your creations up to that next level of creativity that will WOW even the most seasoned crafter and receiver!

Featured Artist/Designer: Tracey McNeely

Welcome to another Featured Artist/Designer Spotlight.  Today we’re thrilled to welcome Tracey McNeely. Before we show you Tracey’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…

TracyMcNeelyProfilePic-09042014-250WHi, I’m Tracey McNeely. Playing with paper, stamps and ink is definitely my favorite creative outlet but I do love to read, cook and more recently do Pilates. I have been making cards and scrapbooking since my teens, but now making cards has become my main focus. Currently I am on the design team at CASology, The Curtain Call, The Card Concept, CAS-ual Fridays and Tag You’re It. I love to inspire and share my love of this craft with others.  I find that I am happiest in my studio, creating projects that are clean and simple.

I live in Ontario, Canada just outside of Toronto. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we just celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary. We have two fabulous kids, Ben who is 19 and in his second year of University and Brooklyn, who is 17 and in her senior year of high school. I was a high school Computer Science and Special Education teacher for nearly 17 years during which time I found out that I had MS.  I left my job 5 years ago when I was no longer able to manage my illness along with working.

Today I have a co-ordinated card ensemble to share with you.

TracyMcNeely1-09042014-550W

When I make a card that is going along with a gift I like to do something else to make it extra special.  I started by stamping the card and I continued the pattern on the front of the card around to the back.  Cristina Kowalczyk discussed doing this recently on her blog.   Doing a technique like this you should start at the end! I decided where I wanted my LAST flower to be and that is where I started stamping.

TracyMcNeely3-09042014-550W

Then I worked my way backwards past the midpoint and carried the vine to the back.  I went back in and filled the design with leaves and more vines until I liked the look of it and then added a few sequins. Once I was done I scored the card in half.

TracyMcNeely4-09042014-550W

Here’s what the card looks like on the front and back once it has been scored.

TracyMcNeely5-09042014-550W

Here’s the front of the card.

TracyMcNeely6-09042014-550W

To complete the ensemble I created a matching envelope with my envelope punch board and finally a matching tag to put on the gift bag.

TracyMcNeely7-09042014-550W

Here’s another look at the ensemble.
