Showers of Love

I just love scene building stamps.  Rosie’s Roadshow is probably my favorite company for this genre.  The only thing limiting you with these types of stamps, is your imagination!  Once you come up with your design, it is a simple matter of coloring it in with your choice of design.  In this case I used Watercolor with Re-inkers and accented with Twinkling H2O’s.  The end result is soft and cute.  It is the perfect style for any of the special people in your life.

I always find it so hard to get back into the swing of things after a long weekend – especially a long weekend like this one.  My littlest guy Sam, who is 2 years old, ended up with an ear infection, so of course he’s been crabby, and my husband’s away on a business trip – so it was me and the 5 kids all weekend (and holiday Monday).  I know the kids love long weekends, but all I can say is that while I enjoyed spending time with them, I’m also glad it was back to school today!

Today’s card is a fun and whimsical one that I really dug into my stash for – I used stuff from all over the place!

Not sure if you can tell from the picture but I used the Life of the Party Dots background stamp I got from that Hero Arts class at CHA to create a really subtle background on the Basic Gray patterned paper.  I did it by inking the stamp up in Faded Jeans Distress ink, stamping off once and then stamping it onto the patterned paper.

A Pair of Pears in Pan Pastels

Allright I have to admit it, I am a huge food lover when it comes to coloring!  I love the texture, the bright colors, the interesting forms.  There really is no room for boredom when you are working with food.  Now the truly fun ones to work with, are the large open images which really allow you to play. 

In a couple of weeks from now, you will be able to find in Paper Crafter’s Library, a series of videos featuring a fairly new product called Pan Pastels. 

Pan Pastels are a fun and versatile medium which are simply a micro ground pastel which comes in a cake form.  The colors are brilliant, smooth, and totally blendable.  Now I have to admit that my first love is with pastels (after oil painting).  I started working with this medium when I was 12 or 13 years old. 

These Pan Pastels are nothing like the sticks that I used to work with.  For starters, they are softer and almost creamy.  They are easy to use, and they are totally going mainstream in the crafting world.  Presently they can be seen (besides with Artsists) in a lot of mixed media work. 

Ever heard of Art Journalling?  Donna Downy is a big name in the stamping world with this style.  Well this medium is extensively used in this kind of work.  I have also started to see stampers picking up this medium due to the ease with which soft backgrounds can be created.  Stamping chalks can’t even hold a candle to the possibilities of this beautiful medium. 

So anyways, today I have colored in my image with Pan Pastels. as well as having created the soft background with them.  The image was sealed with fixative, and is now ready to give as a card.  The great thing, is that I could have easily taken any large open image, and turned it into a totally painterly looking framed image.  The possibilities are endless!

“Take 10” Inspirational Card Featuring Basic Gray, Papertrey Ink & Donna Downey Products

Today I wanted to introduce to you all a new feature to the Paper Crafter’s World that we are calling “Take 10”.  Each “Take 10” post will feature a card or project that takes 10 minutes or less to make.  Each of our “Take 10 projects will also feature a You Tube video showing you exactly how that project was made.

I love working with Karen Lockhart’s imges.  They are beatiful to color, and the images are homey and un-pretentious. 

I really enjoy the coloring portion of card making, and I really enjoy working in different mediums.  Copics are no exeption, they are such a fun medium to work in!  They are so intense, so rich, and capable of a great varied look.  They can put up with a lot of abuse, and are great for the novice and professional alike.  In the upcoming months, you will see a variety of videos using Copic markers.  This is definitely one medium which you will love playing with!

Butterfly Thank You Card Featuring Hero Arts Stamps

Bring out the sunglasses, because today I’m sharing with you a fun, BRIGHT card I created with more of my new Hero Arts stamps.  Have I told you yet that I’m falling in love with Hero Arts stamps (in case you haven’t noticed LOL)?   The ones I used for my card today were ones that I received at that CHA Hero Arts class I told you about in my last few posts. 

Here’s how I made today’s card:

  1. Dry emboss the front of a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Melon Mambo card with the Square Lattice embossing folder. 
  2. Scallop one edge of a 2 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Chartreuse CS.  Center and stick a strip of the Garden Grove Cypress Street patterned paper from Scenic Route onto the scalloped CS piece.
  3. Stick the scalloped CS piece to the card front with Tombow liquid adhesive about 1/4″ away from the left edge of the card.
  4. Stamp the frame from the Sweet Threads Labels Hero Arts stamp set onto Whisper White CS in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Cut it out. Stamp the frame a second time in black ink and then stamp the “Thinking of You” greeting from the Find Joy Hero Arts stamp set in the center of the frame with Melon Mambo Classic ink.  Cut out the center oval and then stick it to the center of the first frame with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Stick the frame to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  5. Stamp the butterfly image from the Lauderdale Floral Hero Arts stamp set onto a scrap of Whisper White CS in Melon Mambo Classic ink.  Color in the center of the wings with a Pink Pirouette Stampin’ Write marker.  Embellish the butterfly with pink rhinestones and black pearls.  Stick the butterfly to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Add a few extra pink rhinestones to the frame and DP.  You’re done!

What’s Cookin?

Who can resist this adorable chicken from Rosie’s Roadshow?  I just love these stamps, which allow you to mix and match, and which are only limited by your imagination.  Paired up with some fun watercolor pencil techniques, and you have an all round winning combination. 

Watercolor pencils are so much fun to work with because they combine the fabulous look of watercolor, with the control and dry techniques of pencil.  For a little extra glitz, I added a touch of Twinkling H2O’s along the base of the BBQ legs.  It adds just the right amount of understate sparkle.  Be sure to check out the tutorials on Paper Crafter’s Library using these versatile mediums, you will definitely fall in love.  Also, coming soon will be some great tutorials on building scenery’s with stamps.

“Thank You” Card

Today I wanted to share a card with you featuring some more of the Hero Arts stamps I received for free at CHA along with a DP from one of my favorite collections of Bo Bunny paper – the Alyssa collection.  I just love the fun patterns and the bright colors.  I also loved how the dots on the paper coordinate with the dots on the flower petals – and since there was a “dot theme” going on, I decided to continue it on by dry embossing my card front with Stampin’ Up’s Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder and with the Martha Stewart Double Scallop Edger punch.

To color my flower I simply used some of my Stampin’ Up! Stampin’ Write markers and used a “faux blending” technique I learned from Jennifer McGuire at the Hero Arts Class at CHA.

Today’s card uses the following supplies:

Tea Cup Girl, Birthdays Are the Best

 

Today’s card is simple yet elegant!  It features the beautiful Tilly the Teacup Girl from Stamping Bella!  She is done up using the watercolor with markers technique. 

I love the vibrancy that this technique offers, and it is so simple and easy to do!  All it takes is a little practice, and the watercolor markers of your choice. 

The background papers were hand made, using various techniques with Ranger Distress Inks, and the overall feel conveyed is simple and clean.

“Thinking Of You” Card

Thank you so much to the wonderful response we’ve been receiving on the launch of this new blog.  We too are very excited about the possibilities that this new blog offers and look forward to sharing our many creations with you. 

Today’s project is a 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ card I created in a bit of a “Shabby Chic” style.  Although my long time blog readers from www.andreawalford.com will know that this is not my usual stamping style, I felt that the Shabby Chic feel of the Basic Gray paper I used really called for this type of card. Besides, I always like challenging myself to step out of my “comfort zone” as I strongly believe that this is important for helping you grow as an artist.

I enhanced the “shabby” feel of the paper with some direct to paper inking – i.e. dragging my ink pad along the edges of the die cut labels and the Stampin’ Up! Melon Mambo CS that I used for matting the Basic Gray patterned paper. 

For the focal point of the card I chose the beautiful script-like greeting from Hero Arts, and emphasized it with a gorgeous Prima flower. When I was at CHA I took both of the Hero Arts classes and received some fantastic Hero Arts stamps for free – the greeting was one of them. I also had the chance to meet some of the Hero Arts girls: Jennifer McGuire, Sally Traidman, Shari Carol and Lisa Spangler. They were super nice and shared a lot of great ideas – plus they were fun to hang around (I was asked to help set up for one of the classes).
