Today on the Paper Crafter’s Library blog, we’re continuing our weekly featured artist spotlight whereby each week we spotlight a different artist/designer in the paper crafting & mixed media world and introduce you to their fabulous work.
Today we’re thrilled to welcome Jocelyn Olson
Before we show you Jocelyn’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…
Hi, my name is Jocelyn Olson. My husband, two great kids and I live in South Dakota. I grew up in the Phoenix suburbs, but since high school, I’ve lived all over the country. I’m an avid papercrafter, bright color lover, digi/hybrid crafter, non-fiction book reader, and expert Polly Pocket dresser. In my spare time, I work as a consultant for states on Federal education and special education programs.
I’ve been lucky enough to work on several great design teams, including the Glitz Design Digital and Two Peas in a Bucket Creative Teams. I’ve also been published in Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine and CARDS Magazine. I am primarily a card maker, although I like to make all types of papercrafting projects. I keep my projects fun and often light-hearted. You can find my work can be found on my blog: Red Balloon Cards
I’m thrilled to be asked to post today, and I’m excited to be sharing a couple of cards with you!
Both of my projects today incorporate both digital and traditional elements, which I love to do. I know many paper crafters are hesitant about digital elements, but I love their versatility and not having to store as much. I often print out just the papers and elements I want to use for a particular project, and then I use them like traditional supplies.
For the Crushing on You, I printed the digital navy tag, “Crushing on…” journaling card, and the tabs and fussy cut them. I combined them with the traditional elements, like the flower ephemera, mist, washi tape, twine, and staples. For this card, I simply printed the elements—all I needed was a computer, a word processing program, and a printer.
For the Thank You, “Deer” card, I used Photoshop to combine several digital elements (the deer and trees). After printing the document, I splattered mist at the top and stamped the sentiment.
I have links to some digital tutorials and videos I’ve made under the “Digital Tutorials” on my blog. If you make a hybrid project, I’d love to see it. Please leave a link! Thank you so much for looking!
