Maya Road Week: Day 4

It’s Day 4 of Maya Road week on the Paper Crafter’s Library blog!  We’re thrilled to be partnering with Maya Road for a week filled with fantastic project ideas featuring Maya Road Products.  Since discovering the Maya Road booth at CHA, we’ve been absolute Maya Road Junkies – or to use Maya Road terminology – “Roadies”.  They have such a fantastic array of products which can act as building blocks to just about any project you can think of – they’ve got tons of chipboards, albums, trims, trinkets, Mists, stamps, rub-ons…..and that doesn’t even scratch the surface!

Every day this week we’ll be featuring projects both from Maya Road Design Team members as well as some of our Paper Crafter’s Library Designers/Educators. As part of this week’s projects we – and the Maya Road Design Team challenged ourselves to create as many different projects as we could with the collection of Maya Road products shown below. Our goal was to show you how incredibly versatile these products are and how many different looks you can achieve with them. I have to tell you, I was blown away in seeing every one’s projects and what a different spin everyone puts on those same products. Maya Road Prize Pack

About Maya Road

Maya Road was born in 2003. Two sisters, Deborah and Caroline, were spending the weekend together, and went shopping for all of the latest scrapbooking supplies. As they browsed the aisles, they were struck by how difficult it was to find unique scrapbooking products and how expensive products were. They started chatting about products they wanted to see, and they brainstormed how they could combine their business knowledge and design skills to produce the unique products for scrapbooking. Thus, Maya Road was formed.

After much soul-searching, they decided to launch Maya Road nationally with 38 unique products at HIA (the prior name for CHA Tradeshow) in 2004. Since then Maya Road has added over 2000 new products to their line. Creative items include such as chipboard, trims, twines, metals, Maya Mists, embellishments and more.

Maya Road was founded on a belief in each person’s creative ability and on the commitment to making high quality scrapbooking products available and affordable to everyone. Maya Road believes that scrapbooking and memory keeping should be an everyday event available to everyone.

Our signature products are carried in over 1000 scrapbooking stores in the US, Australia, Canada, the UK and beyond. People often ask where the term “Maya Road” comes from. Maya is actually a combination of nicknames, Caroline and Deborah, had as kids. They looked up “Maya” and realized it meant “The Art of Creation” and thus, Maya Road was born.

 Maya Road Designer Project 

Our Maya Road Designer today is Lisa Pace.  You can see her amazing project below, but first, here is a little more about Lisa:

Lisa Pace lives in Frisco, Texas with her husband and two daughters. Lisa started scrapbooking in 2006. Her first book “Delight In The Details,” was published in January of 2010 by North Light Books/F+W Media Inc.  In November of 2011, Lisa collaborated with Pink Persimmon and released her vintage inspired stamp line “Antiquated Collection by Lisa M. Pace”. In January of 2012 her second book “Delight In The Seasons” was published by North Light Books/F+W Media Inc.

Lisa is the Special Projects Coordinator for Maya Road and a signature designer with Blossom Bucket, Inc. who she recently designed a vintage inspired jewelry line which is scheduled to debut in January 2013. Lisa recently started working on her third technique based book with North Light Books/F+W Media Inc., which is scheduled for publication in January 2014.

About the project:

For this project, I wanted to create an inspirational canvas for my daughter, Ansley. She graduates High School in a few days and thought this would be a fun piece for her to have filled with lots of inspirational words.

 

Once I attached the book pages to the canvas I decided to give the background a slight conservatory feel and used the ornate vintage butterflies stamp set to create the background. Once stamped using markers I colored in each of the butterflies then carefully accented each one with diamond stickles. While the diamond stickles was drying I painted a scallop edge all around the canvas and the Jonathan alpha chipboard letters “fly”. After the paint and stickles dried I completely covered the entire top of the canvas using clear rock candy crackle paint and set it aside to dry.

 

While the crackle paint was drying I arranged the mini kraft tags as I wanted them to appear on the canvas then decided on which word stickers (always, dream, love, smile, grow, adore, &) to use for each tag. I then inked and distressed the edges of each tag and using a black pen outlined each word sticker. Once I had the mini kraft tags arranged as I liked I applied watercolor to three canvas triangle banner pieces. Once these dried I attached a Jonathan alpha chipboard piece to each banner to spell out “fly”. I then attached the canvas triangle banner pieces to the turquoise twine cording, tied a bow and attached each end of the turquoise twine cording to a love hanger.

Once everything was completely dry I attached the kraft mini tags, the vintage mum – apple, a bow created from coffee brown mini gingham trim, the love hanger mini “fly” banner and turquoise and yellow ruffle flowers as shown. To accent the edge of the canvas I attached leaf zipper trim all along the outer edge.

Paper Crafter’s Library Designer Projects

With the end of the school year just around the corner, our first project for today with a free video tutorial is a simple card with a masculine feel to it – perfect for a tween or teenage boy.  In this card Tracy uses the zipper trim and canvas banner to create an arrow depicting encouragement for her son to keep moving forward.

Our next project for today is our Paper Crafter’s Library Member exclusive project – and it’s an Altered Spool Frame.  I started by cutting down a wooden dowel of approximately 1/4″ diameter and then I glued it inside a wooden spool using a hot glue gun.  The spool measures about 1 1/2″ wide by 2″ high.  I painted the spool and dowel in yellow.  I wrapped Maya Road Blackberry Twine Cording around the spool and then tied some in a bow around the bottom of the dowel.  The scalloped frame was created using two pieces of Maya Road chipboard which I embossed with my Wow! Black Glint embossing glitter.  The little cluster of embellishments was created using two of the ruffled flowers, some Maya Road tulle and a couple of Maya Road trinket pins.

The picture below is a close-up of the embellishment cluster we created.

This last picture is a close up of the back of the frame.  Both pictures – the front and the back were taken when my husband and I went on a Mediterranean Cruise.
