Trend Watch – Bible Journaling

Our trend watch for today is a little bit different. No cards to share with you: it’s all about Bibles. And yes, it’s very creative!

Maybe you’ve already heard of Bible journaling. To keep it short; it’s a creative way to read the word of God and to doodle or write in the margins of your Bible. While it’s more about the process, the reading and to think about the message, there are some great artists in the Bible journaling ‘area’. So this week I want to show you a couple of beautiful pages.

Bible pages are very thin and everyone has their own way of working on them. A lot of people use gesso or multi medium to prepare their pages, others use colored pencils (which won’t harm you pages) or they don’t mind the bleed that happens when you work in your Bible without preparing the pages. The fun part is, that you can use a lot of supplies that you already have from paper crafting, like stamps and stickers.

So let’s have a look at the pages! It’s a very personal way of journaling and that makes each page really unique. I love the colorful and detailed way Melissa from Fisch tale designs journals (she shares even more images on her Instagram feed).

A person that uses a lot of different techniques in her journaling is Rebekah Jones. She manages to get great pages with various materials. For this page she used Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens.

If you don’t like to work directly on the pages you could work on separate papers and add them to your Bible later. Patter used a tag to add some doodles to her pages.

When you’re good at drawing, you could design your own pages with pen and pencil. Karla Dornacher makes beautiful illustrated pages. (if you’re not an illustrater at all, you can comfort yourself with the thought that Sweet ’n Sassy Stamps sells a stamp set with her drawings too ;)).

I can’t skip the Illustrated Faith community when I’m talking about bible journaling, so of course I’m going to share a page from their blog too. Shanna Noel started the Bible journaling ‘trend’ and started this community too. Most of the Bible journalers can be found in the Facebook group they started or on the blog. They share a lot of ideas on their blog, like this colorful page from Tai Bender.
