Trend Watch – Beautiful Backgrounds

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of amazing backgrounds. Sometimes they’re so good it’s a shame to cover them with other products. So for this trend watch I’m focusing on the backgrounds, and a couple of different ways to make them. You’re not limited to background stamps!

When you don’t own a lot of background stamps but do own beautiful image stamps you can create your own background with those stamps. Gayatri used this cute critter from Hero Arts to make her own background.

If you don’t want to cover up to much of your background, vellum is a great addition to your card. It shows your background but you can also add a little extra dimension. I love the white paper Thordis used on her vellum, it makes the colors in the background pop really well. She made the background with an ink blender and distress ink.

You can use embossing folders in a lot of die cutting machines. This can create beautiful ‘dry embossed’ effects on your cards. It has a different look and feel than the heat embossing and it’s a really nice touch to your cards. Theresa used an embossing folder for her birthday card.

There are a lot of die cuts for backgrounds too. You can use every type of paper for them. Patterns, plain white paper or color blocking like Alice did on her card.

Stencils are another great way to create a custom background. I especially love the ombre backgrounds you can create with them. Monika made a beautiful yellow background with her stencil and used a vellum overlay too.

I couldn’t completely leave out the background stamps. Some of them are just too beautiful. A great way to make a quick background that’s completely your style. I love the bright color choice from Kymona, especially in contrast with the white embossing.
