I’m sorry but I just had to do the alliteration in threes for the title.  Clearly, I am a sucker for the puns.

Shapes are not new but using them graphically is hot right now.   With tons of new paper, stamps and accessories crafters are able to do so much using this trend.  Let me show you some of the cool things I have been seeing focusing on triangles.

I just couldn’t pass up this awesome alligator shaped card because the pun is a classic and I remember reciting this to my dad at night.  It is a great kid and nostalgia card.  And get the triangles:  in the scales and in his actual face!  How fun.

I love the look of the different types triangles in this next card too.  The background has a cascading print and wood veneer triangles, solid and outlined, make this one a super-happy trifectta.

Another pretty use of triangle wood veneer is this card with the look of mirrored mountain peeks.  The dimension on this card is just great.

You can make your own triangles with a die or hand cutting them in patterned paper.  The soft colors together with the vellum is just lovely in this layout.

This card takes triangle a step further by cutting triangles out of  the middle of each triangle base for a very cool echo look.

Lisa used a die to create this rainbow of triangles with the awesome inspiring sentiment.  It comes together so nicely in this encouraging card.

Lisa is also awesome with stencils.  These triangles were lifted and cut from the Simon Say Stamp stencil.  She colored them to create her pink and black and grey theme.

I fell in love with this card and when I read that Maria created the shape during a creative mistake/opportunity while putting the shape together.  She created the triangles by cutting squares  in half.  The wonderful pun is also aces.

Cool. Congrats

Stamps are another great way to incorporate triangles in your designs.  The precision on this awesome graphic black and white card is just fab.

Love today and always

Kara also created this next incredible card with inspiration from a Navajo blanket peaking out from the edge of the card.

Another cool stamping effect is the watercolor look.  This was achieved by stamping.  It looks like Dana could have used water mist with the ink as well.

Kim was able to achieve dimension with her version of stamped triangles by double stamping and lifting the stamped image with foam tape.  The gold is a brilliant extra touch to this fun design.

Are you a project lifer?  I must admit I use the pocket cards to actually make cards but when they are used in the sleeves they look great too.  I was drawn to what cool look the triangles made collected together on the page.  Tracy hand stitched the pockets to create the triangle look.

I hope you were inspired by the cool looks you can achieve by incorporating triangle shapes.  Because it is so basic, you don’t necessarily have to have supplies to create you own.  But if, like me, you like to shop, I also found some pretty papers, stamps, veneer, and  a stencil or two so you can try it out yourself.

So go on… make something pretty.

  1. That alligator card is just too darn cute! I’m going to have to use this idea on something. Love the teeth and the eyes!

  2. I don’t usually have the $$ to jump on too many trend bandwagons, but this is one I can follow guilt-free. Every single one of them is a keeper. Eesha Kolli’s card is at the top of my CASE list.

  3. All the cards and scrapbook pages are beautiful! What a wonderful way to follow the trend using some of our scraps…. Neat!
