Featured Artist/Designer: Amber Hight – 05 28 2015

Welcome to another Featured Artist/Designer Spotlight. Today we’re thrilled to welcome Amber Hight. Before we show you Amber’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…

AmberHightProfilePic-250W-05282015I am married to the love of my life for the past 12 glorious years. We have two children. Luke and Jesse. They are hairy and have four legs 🙂 They are labrador retrievers and I couldn’t love them more if they WERE my natural born children!  My husband is in the Air Force and has now been in for 21 years. I work in a busy real estate office in the Tacoma Washington area.

I have been stamping since 2005. It all started with an Avon catalog from my Mom! I saw a fun scrapbook kit and immediately fell in love with the hobby. I scrapbooked for a couple years and then found stamping, which I found much more satisfying! I love the smaller canvas and quicker result! Last year, I found mixed media and art journaling, and my art has once again shifted focus. Anytime I can play with various ink colors and get messy, I am in heaven!

Dream Big

To begin, I applied torn patterned paper strips to the manila tag with Mod Podge. Next, I rubbed some white gesso on the papers to mute the bright colors. I added a white doily with a glue stick and let it dry. Next, I stamped the sentiment directly on the doily. Added another torn paper strip to the top of the tag, and applied more gesso. When that was dry, I rubbed a bit of the teal Silk glaze paint with my finger. As an after though, I added the heart circle rub-ons. I kind of wish I’d left that off now, but it’s part of the process, lol! Oh well 🙂

To finish the tag off I added the sun and cloud dies and added a button then wrapped twine around the tag and tied in a bow. I added the little binder clip to the top to balance everything, and that’s it!

Poppy Stamps Designer – Jeane Jachna

Today we welcome Jeane Jachna. We are so excited to have her showcase her work today on Paper Crafter’s Library. You can see Jeane’s fabulous project below, but first, here is a little more about her:

JeaneJachnaProfilePic-250W-05272015Hi! I’m Jeanne Jachna. I’m a married, stay at home mom of two young adults, and one very active Akita puppy. I live in Northwest Indiana near Chicago.  I like to read, garden, and cook, but I have been completely captivated by paper crafting. I can’t resist a new set of stamps, bling, big bows and colorful paper. I love to layer on lots of die cuts and mix different patterned papers together. My time crafting is a sweet escape and a fun way to express myself.

Happy Camper

I stamped the tent in Memento Ink and colored with Copic Markers. Next I covered the tent image with masking fluid. I die cut a border and used it as a mask to create the grass  (bottom half) with distress ink. When the ink was set I  stamped the tree image, colored it with Copic Markers, and again applied masking fluid following manufacturer directions. I die cut a cloud border and used it as a mask to create the sky with distress ink. When the ink was set I removed the masking fluid, and added more Copic color to the tent and tree. When the The fox and campfire were stamped and colored with Copic Markers and die cut with the companion die set, and adhered with adhesive foam tape. The tree was fussy cut and adhered flat to the project.

Trend Watch – Layered Flowers

I’m in love with those beautiful flower meadows in spring. The bright colors (there are flowers in every color you can think of) add a little bit of joy to my days. And I think that’s why I tend to use a lot of flowers in my crafting projects. They’re so versatile and you can use them for many occasions.

There are a couple of stamp sets that give you beautiful layered flowers these days. The layers give a little bit extra dimension to your flowers and some of them look almost like real flowers. Today I want to highlight some of these stamp sets.

Barbara Anders used a couple of different flowers from My Favorite Things to make this nice layered card. The flowers really pop with all those different colors.

When I saw the release from The Ton stamps I was really amazed by the pretty flowers they made. The different layers are really detailed and you get some great flowers with them. I love the colorful ‘thanks’ card Jess made.

Winnie and Walter has more stylized flowers but they’re very beautiful too. I love this card Joni Andaya made, great to brighten a friends day.

Yoonshun Hur created a beautiful card with the vintage style flowers from Altenew. She choose a beautiful color scheme with a watercolored background which makes the card very trending, with a vintage touch from the roses.

And of course I had to add a card that used a stamp set from Wplus9. They have lovely stamp builder sets that you can use to make great bouquets. I love the colorful card Lydia created with the beautiful ‘more fresh cuts’ stamps.

There are no “Must” in Art, because Art is free” – Wassily Kandinsky

Hello, my name is Bibiana, I am fom Colombia, South America. I grew up between Mexico and France and currently live in California, USA, where I discovered the Art of Scrapbooking, Mix Media and Card Making. As long as I can remember, my two worlds have been Languages and Arts. Nowadays, I teach French and Spanish and work as an interpreter/translator.

In the world of Arts, I have ventured into all sorts of crafts from crochet, knitting, refinishing furniture, to scrapbooking, mix media, stamping and lately in acrylic painting

I started card making and teaching it in 2008. I take part in several stamps, craft dies, and floral embellishments design teams (“Memory Box”, “Petaloo”, “Lost Coast designs”, “Lavinia” and “Decoart”).

I post tutorials of paper crafting projects and host a monthly link-up party
“The Throwback Thursday #TBT” challenge at my Blog “Stamping with Bibiana

I write, as well two foreign language blogs (Spanish and French) for Memory Box, an American stamp and craft steel die company.

Parchment Craft

“Parchment Craft” is a very old form of art transforming vellum into magnificent pieces, using traditionally several special tools and techniques that require lots of patience, dexterity and time…

Taking from the quote from above;
I took the liberty to modify certain aspects of this ancient technique and apply to it our NEW and modern tools.

In today’s video you will see the use of steel craft dies and stamps to make “Parchment Craft”, innovation that I created in order to simplified the steps that “Parchment Craft” requires to achieve that lacy look.

I hope you will enjoy today’s video on “Parchment craft”.

Trend Watch – Bejeweled and Be Awesome Gems

This gem trend shines so bright I could have looked at it from several directions.  Literally, you can amp up the sparkle on your paper projects by including rhinestones and other jewels.  And just like a little mouse, I am drawn to the sparkly goodness of a shiny card too.  But for this post I want to focus on the type of bling you can create with stamps.  There are several manufacturers that have great sets you can use to create cute cards and pages for your special someone.   So with no further ado… let the bling begin!

I totally dig the foiling gold pieces JJ used to create her gem for her card.  The geometric shapes in the background of her card are the perfect compliment to the round cut gem she outlined.

jjbolton_poetsociety1

The shininess just begs to be used in a shaker card, don’t you think?  I think Effie did a great job capturing the ice cold blue in her diamonds and the sequins bling just echos the cut of the diamonds.

blue-dia-shaker

I love the subtly and shine of Amy’s diamond tag.  She colored with Copics and added glossy accents to give the diamond the proper shine it deserves.  The watercolor thanks is cool too.

Gold also works really well for gems as well.  Mary has another take on a gem tag and uses gold to accent her gem and she adds a line of strung gold sequins for an accent.

I love how Tessa uses multiple gems in the pink family to make her card stand out.  How pretty is this?  Her background paper is also sparkly looking and pink.

Dawn used a colorful rainbow to show off her gems.  The stamping and coloring technique she used makes them look three dimensional and sparkly.  So pretty.

The sentiment from this stamp set is so awesome and goes great with a fun watercolor background.  I link the stamp set to the shop at the end of this post so you can check it out.

I am in love with this new watercolor that does not require that you be great with a paintbrush.  It is intentionally loose and messy.  The finished look is so arty.  Mayuri pulls it off effortlessly

Weddings are another great occasion for gem stamps too.  I love the look of the gold foil diamond as a background for this lovely wedding card.

This next card by Kelly is so clever!  She makes her own necklace from the stamp.    This is awesome.

Kate created a few gem templates you can use to create a pop up jewel card of your own.  Which cut is your favorite?

This 3D awesomeness is from Katie and would be a huge way to send congratulations or a wedding announcement to loved ones.  It is big and grand and ostentatious like great diamonds should be.

You don’t have to get diamond envy with this trend.  There are plenty of stamps, background papers and die cuts that you can make your own in the size shape and color of your dreams.  I hope your found a few things to spark your creativity or new brands or techniques to try.  I have found a few products that might provide some additional inspiration.

So go ahead… make something pretty.

Welcome to another Featured Artist/Designer Spotlight. Today we’re thrilled to welcome Erin Schreiner .  Before we show you Erin’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…

ErinSchreinerProfilePic-250W-05142015
I was born and raised in Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Advertising and a minor in Dance. (Rock Chalk Jayhawk!) I am married to my high school sweetheart and together we have two beautiful children, Dakota and Dylan, 2 dogs and a cat. I started paper crafting in 2008, and I absolutely adore stamps, dies, and ink! In my spare time, you can find me bird watching, drinking Dr. Pepper, shopping and traveling.

Hello

To create this simple floral card that packs a punch, create a white card base by scoring and folding. Adhere a strip of patterned paper to the left side. Stamp your bold flower on a white cardstock panel with Memento ink and color with Copic markers, adhere to card base. Stamp your sentiment, and you have one simple yet bold card!
