Trend Watch – Happy Hexagons

The hexagon seems to be a trendy shape that is sticking around for the long haul. The chemist in me is partial to them, since a hexagon can be used to represent a 6-carbon ring, but I digress. This post is full of a variety of ways to use hexagons. I am always so amazed at how creative you crafters can be with such a simple shape!

This card by Susan uses the hexagon shape as the focal point and shape of her card! It would be such a unique treat to receive in the mail.

Mindy’s card is so vibrant that I am sure it will definitely cheer up the recipient! I love the hexagon “scaffold” and how she layered it over the bold black and white stripes.

Marisa used cute patterned paper for the hexagons on her sweet greeting card. The way she accentuated the quilt-like appearance with some stitching and burlap makes the card just perfect.

This bright and colorful card takes advantage of the way hexagons fit together to provide a great backdrop for birthday wishes. Yana made such an eye-catching card that would make anyone’s birthday cheerier!

Diane’s card would be perfect for any of the men in your life. I like how she used more masculine colors and accentuated a segment of the hexagon background with the navy blue paper. This card reminds me also of a number of board games I love to play that use hexagon tiles to build the board. (Is anyone out there familiar with Settlers of Catan, Takenoko, or Eclipse?) How much fun would it be to make a hexagon card that connects to a board game for someone that loves to play?

Stephanie’s card does a great job of using hexagons to add a unique flair to the front of her card. The bright pink really sets off the constellation background.

Don’t forget that hexagons are one of the shapes on a soccer ball! Look at how Amanda used her Hexagon Hive die to produce a great soccer ball! I’m sure this idea could go a long way for all of the soccer or sports fanatics in your life.

Hexagons are also the shape of beehives, and I would be remiss to not show you at least one bee card. Lisa made such a cute background for her little honeybee to travel across. The variation in color really adds interest to the little hexagons!

There are so many different hexagon related products out there, it was hard to choose a few.  Be sure to visit your favorite paper crafting retailer and search for hexagons!

Sizzix has this great set of 14 dies that make small, layered hexagon shapes.
