Featured Artist/Designer: Leigh Penner

Today on the Paper Crafter’s Library blog, we’re continuing our weekly featured artist spotlight whereby each week we spotlight a different artist/designer in the paper crafting & mixed media world and introduce you to their fabulous work.

Today we’re thrilled to welcome Leigh Penner.

Before we show you Leigh’s project, let’s get to know her a little bit more…

My name is Leigh Penner and I live in Morden, Manitoba, Canada with my husband of 17 years and our three children. I work as a substitute teacher, which I enjoy, because it allows me to work the same hours/days as my children as well as gives me days off to craft!  I have been scrapbooking for over ten years now and started cardmaking and stamping about three years ago, when I purchased my first die cutting machine and some clear stamps online. I love both forms of paper crafting evenly and would have a hard time choosing between the two!   I would describe my style as CAS & pretty, with stitching 99% of the time.  I am currently on the following design teams: Reverse Confetti, CAS(E) this Sketch, Inspired Blueprints and the 10 Minute Craft Dash.

Here’s what I did:

1. I started with a panel of My Mind’s Eye patterned paper, which I layered over some Soft Stone cardstock. 
2. I cut a strip of vellum, on which I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed in brown Zing! embossing powder.
3. I stamped each heart in Versamark and then in a dye ink and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder.  *See note below.
4. I adhered the vellum panel to my card and added some stitching.
5. To finish off my card, I added three Soft Stone buttons and attached them with twine.

*I love being able to heat emboss on vellum with dye inks. All you have to do is press your stamp into Versamark first, before pressing it onto the dye ink pad. Then you can stamp onto the vellum and use clear embossing powder to set the colour.

Stamps: Forever Fall (Reverse Confetti)
Ink: VersaMark ink (Tsukineko); Harvest Gold, Scarlet Jewel & Orange Zest dye inks (Papertrey Ink)
Paper: Vellum, Soft Stone cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Cut ‘N Paste patterned paper (My Mind’s Eye)
Accessories: Soft Stone buttons, twine (Papertrey ink); Brown Zing! embossing powder (American Crafts)
