I’m so excited to bring you this week’s Featured Company which is also a returning company: Fancy Pants Designs! At CHA 2013 in Anaheim, as I was walking the aisles keeping my eyes open for great companies and products to spotlight, I was immediately drawn in by the gorgeous products in the Fancy Pants booth. Which is why I was thrilled that Jodi (one of the owners) accepted our invitation! They have been featured before and we are so pleased to have them back with us. In today’s spotlight you’ll learn more about Fancy Pants Designs, see a fantastic project by one of their designers and have the opportunity to win the Down by the Shore Collection shown below (details at the end of this post).

We are so excited to have her showcase her work today on Paper Crafter’s Library. My name is Jenny Evans and I live in Oklahoma with my husband, Justin, and our 2 boys, Daniel(10) and Jacob(4). I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, but am now a stay-at-home mom. I have been scrapbooking and papercrafting on and off for 10 years, but only consistently for the past couple of years.

My scrapbook style is a healthy mix of trendy, contemporary, modern, and maybe a bit of whimsical thrown in. Besides scrapping my fun and fabulous family, I enjoy photography, reading and cooking. I am so excited to be a designer for Fancy Pants Designs, and to be a part of an amazing team!

Album Project

SONY DSC Today I like to share with you how to create this photo album project using the Down by the Shore collection.

1. Start by cutting your corrugated paper into 5x7inch pieces. You will need 2 red and 2 blue. Then, round the bottom two corners with a large corner punch. Print and cut your photos.

2. Cover the back/flat side of the corrugate paper with patterned paper. I have left the last one uncovered for a clean look.

3. Select your paper, embellishments and photos for each corrugated paper.

4. Design your pages, both front and back. Note that you will be punching holes in each page for the album rings, so make sure to keep all your embellishments away from that area.

5. You will need two 1inch album rings for your album. Punch 2 holes in the cover page. Take the cover and line it up on top of each of the other pages. Take a pencil and mark through the holes so you can easily punch the other pages in the same place. Add the album rings.

You can see Jess’ fabulous project below, but first, here is a little more about Jess:

I’m Jess and I am a stay at home mom to my toddler extraordinaire, Owen, and my beautiful baby girl, Lily, who was born in July 2012. We live just West of Boston with three crazy orange cats and a lot of dust bunnies!

Before staying at home I worked as a theatrical costume designer. I love to cook, bake (especially cupcakes), travel, sew, entertain, and read young adult fiction. Scrapping saves my sanity and I love nothing more than just sitting down to play with colors and texture. You can see my work in Scrapstreet Magazine, Scrapbook News and Review, Scrapbook Trends, Simply Handmade, CARDS, several Create books, PaperHaus, and Creating Keepsakes. I am thrilled to be designing for Fancy Pants Designs!

Shadowbox Project

1. Begin by painting the shadowbox with gray paint. Cut four 1/2″ x 12″ strips of the Mustache Fever paper and adhere them around the outside edges. Print six 2.75″ x 3.75″ photos and ink the edges with black ink. Cut five 2.75″ x 3.75″ paper mats and ink them in black.

2. Adhere all the paper mats and photos inside the boxes. You can see that I left one box blank for the title block, which we will get to later.

3. Add layers and embellishments to each box:Box 1 – Cut the banner from the Humourous paper and outline it in black pen. Mat the moustache lined journaling tag with teal paper, add the chevron sticker, and the metal clip and use foam tape to adhere it on top of the banner. Mat the “sweet” sticker with orange and use foam tape to adhere it on top.
Box 2 – Outline the photo in black pen. Adhere the layered stickers to the top.
Box 3 – Cut a 1.5″ x 12″ strip of Gallant paper, border punch one side and score it every 1/4″. Accordion fold the strip, adhere the ends to form a circle and flatten it onto a scrap of paper using a strong adhesive. Layer the dart board die cut, small pennant sticker, and a twine tied button on top.
Box 4 – Add the “melt my heart” sticker.
Box 5 – Use foam tape to adhere the “2″.
Box 6 – Leave empty for now!
Box 7 – Mat the “picture perfect” sticker with teal paper and adhere it to the photo with foam tape.
Box 8 – Outline the paper with black pen. Cut a 2″ square piece of the Powerful paper and use the metal clip to attach it behind the tag. Punch and ink a circle to mat the circle quote sticker and use foam tape to adhere it on top of the tag.
Box 9 – String the three chipboard pennants with twine and adhere them with foam tape. Cut the long quote sticker in half, trim the hearts off (save them for later!) and outline the strips. Us foam tape to adhere them on top of the bracket die cut. Add the die cut to the box and add two stacked and tied buttons.
Box 10 – Add the layered stickers to the bottom of the photo.
Box 11 – Outline the photo in black pen. Use foam tape to adhere the “100% boy” tag.
Box 12 – Outline the pennant in black pen. Ink the edges of the manilla star and add it to the box with foam tape. Adhere the “handsome” sticker with more foam tape and add the felt moustache below it.
4. Cut a 3″ x 4″ piece of kraft corrugated paper and adhere it on top of the box edges. Cut two 2″ wide pieces of orange paper, notch the ends, and ink them. Adhere the orange pieces to the top and bottom of the large bracket die cut and layer on top of the kraft as shown. Ink and/or spray the manilla “love” letters and outline them in black pen. Add them to the center of the block, use tiny letter stickers to complete your title, and adhere the felt moustache below. Adhere the star flair in the center of the “O”. Finally, cut around those tiny hearts we saved from Box 9 and add them.

Makeover Monday Challenge #9: Inspired by Heather Nichols

Welcome back to our Make Over Monday Challenge – our first one for 2012!

For those of you that may be new to our Makeover Monday challenge, it’s a weekly challenge brought to you by the Paper Crafter’s Library and Sunny Stampin’ Studios. The purpose of Makeover Monday is to help you learn how to take the ideas and inspiration you find on the internet, and make it your own. This challenge is strictly a “work from your stash” challenge.

Over the last 7 years of teaching in the paper crafting industry, I’ve noticed that many of my students feel like they have to run out and buy the exact same products I used, rather than looking to their own stash to see if they having something that might work instead.

Now I’ll be the first to admit, shopping for paper crafting supplies is fun, and I certainly do my share of it, but why spend your money on a product that may be similar to what you already have?………………and that’s where the concept for Makeover Monday was born.

Every Monday I take a project I found on the internet, and show you my process for recreating it and making it my own, using supplies from my own stash.

This week’s Makeover Monday inspiration piece shown below comes from Heather Nichols – like many of the other paper artists I’ve taken inspiration from in my previous Makeover Monday Challenge posts, I’ve been following Heather for a long time – she’s very a very talented crafter with a gorgeous rustic style. You can see her card (shown below) in her post on her “Pine Is Here” Blog.

Product Spotlight & Freebie Friday: Fancy Pants Designs Love Story Collection….Enter to Win!

Welcome to our first Freebie Friday for 2012! This week we’re spotlighting a fun collection called “Love Story” by a company whose products I’ve just recently started to use – Fancy Pants Designs. This particular collection kit includes 12 sheets of double-sided patterned paper – giving you 24 different designs in all! Among them you’ll find some that are obviously Valentine’s themed, but many others – in fact the majority – that can be used for many different occasions. Along with the patterned papers there are also two 6″ x 12″ sticker sheets – one containing different elements, and one of alphabets.

For today’s Freebie Friday we’re giving away this collection, and showcasing a free video tutorial of the cute tag pouch shown below, which was created using elements from this collection. The tag pouches also feature products from Spellbinders and Papertrey Inc.

Makeover Monday Challenge #2: Snowflake Card…& a Winner

Welcome to our *NEW* Make Over Monday Challenge – a weekly challenge brought to you by the Paper Crafter’s Library and Sunny Stampin’ Studios. Product Review: Spellbinders Grand Calibur & Freebie Friday…Enter To Win Spellbinders Nestabilities!

As long time fans of Spellbinders Paper Arts, we were absolutely thrilled when Spellbinders sent us the Grand Calibur, some Grand Nestabilities, as well as a box filled with other Spellbinders goodies to test drive and review. For today, we’re going to review the Grand Calibur in a video, and show you exactly how it’s used. We’re also going to share with you a free video tutorial with PDF handout on how to make the adorable project shown at the bottom of this post featuring the Grand Labels 4 Grand Nestabilities die (cut using the Grand Calibur)……

AND we are giving away two of the regular Spellbinder’s dies (valued at $50 US) – the standard circles and classic scalloped rectangles large – which can be used either in the Grand Calibur OR the Wizard, OR the Big Shot, OR the Cuttlebug…etc!

In A Nutshell…….

Pros:
The Spellbinders Grand Calibur is a large format die cutting and embossing machine designed for the home user. It is a very affordable system - retailing at $139.99 US. We found it to be easy to use, allows for a variety of applications, and is relatively compact making it easy to store. And weighing in at 10 lbs, it’s also fairly portable.

Although designed to work with the Grand Nestabilities – the largest dies of their kind on the market – it is compatible with ALL the Spellbinder’s dies. It features a large platform – 8 1/4″ x 11 3/4″ – with color coded plates for cutting and embossing – allowing you to fit a whole lot of dies on the cutting platform at once. Personally, we are HUGE fans of the large cutting platform and large dies because it opens up a whole new world of project possibilities. It also has a stability base to keep the machine in place during use.

Cons:
The only con we really came across is that the stability base will only engage on a smooth surface. It won’t grip the grainy or pebbly surfaces found on many of the portable plastic folding tables. Without the stability mechanism in place the machine is fairly wobbly, and required you to hold it in place with one hand.
